The Girl Next Door unfolds in a quiet suburban town in the summer of 1958. 12-year old David Moran (Daniel Manche) discovers that his next-door neighbours, the Chandlers, have adopted two girls; Megan Loughlin (Blythe Auffarth) and her younger sister Susan (Madeline Taylor), recently orphaned in a terrible car crash, leaving them in the care of their mentally unstable aunt Ruth (Blanche Baker).
David befriends the older of the two girls, and as he falls in love with her, he begins to notice that the girls’ presence in the house next door seems to provoke inexplicable jealousy and resentment from their aunt. Ruth’s hostility towards the two girls soon escalates from mere verbal insults to physical abuse, involving her three young sons, the neighbourhood children, and 12-year-old David whose life will be changed forever.
William Atherton, Catherine Mary Stewart and Grant Show co-star in this devastating drama adapted from the controversial best-seller by Jack Ketchum.
