Gilbert, a film student, puts an ad on the internet: “Documentary Filmmaker looking for suicidal individual to follow from first preparations to final act.” To his surprise more than a dozen people apply. He settles on Matt, 24 years old, who is suffering from an incurable brain tumor and is determined to end his life before the agonizing pain that awaits him.
Gilbert convinces his ex-girlfriend Valerie into coming on board to do the sound, and together they follow Matt through his final weeks. They film him arranging his funeral, picking a coffin, and selling off his things. The more time they spend together the closer they get. But when they meet Matt’s mother who doesn’t know about her son’s tumor or his suicide plans, Valerie not only decides to leave the project but also tries to change Matt’s mind about ending his life. This sets her on a direct collision course with Gilbert who needs the suicide for his documentary. The battle over Matt’s life begins.
